BM-103: ACCOUNTING-I
Objective:
To familiarize the students with the fundamentals of Book-Keeping and Accountancy and to create an awareness among the students about the practical utility of the Accounting Concepts and Conventions.
UNIT I
Introduction: Origin and Development of Accounting Thought, Book Keeping, Accounting. Accountancy. Meaning & objectives of Accounting/Functions of Accounting! Accounting Principles - Concepts and conventions - Accounting Standards. Basis of Accounting (Cash system. Mercantile system and Hybrid system). Systems of Accounting, Recording of business transactions under double entry - system - Journalizing and Ledger Accounts preparation. 12 Hours
UNIT II
Subsidiary Books - Sales Book. Sales Return Book. Purchases Book, under Imprest System.
Purchase Return Book. Cash Book. Analytical/Petty Cash Book, Bills of Exchange (excluding Accommodation Bills) 12 Hours
UNIT III
Depreciation Accounting - Meaning and definition. Causes. Methods of charging depreciation - Original Cost method. Written down value method, Annuity method (excluding change of methods)
Trial balance, Error's and their rectification- Suspense Accounts
i) Errors located before the preparation of Trial Balance
Errors located after the preparation of Trial Balance and before the preparation of final accounts. 12 Hours
UNIT IV
Preparation of Final Accounts - Trading Account. Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet 12 Hours
